you should not i repeat not put your video as an embed on your site.
what you should do is encode the video for your own server and upload and show it there, perhaps with html5 video tag, or kaltura, or with a flash player. The reason being you will get the video playing but then the user / visitor will leave your site in favor of you tube ( there is no way a developer can avoid that fact ). Youtube revenue is built that way. The only way to avoid that is to recreate the video for your site, minding the bitrate, the video encoding and doing the work that youtube does when it comes from their site - the on the fly decoding it does for various devices and browses. You must do the work for your own site. Keep the you tube video on youtube with a reference to your own site - that is good for seo. But the best way to create your own page rank is the text you write for your site. No way around it - sorry!

I definitely share your view that time onsite is becoming a factor - Google does measure how long it takes before you return to the SERPs. Moreover, I also believe click through rate is a factor too, hence the addition to Google Webmaster Tools

HP, brilliant idea to make your page sticky...put a YouTube video on the site!

I've primarily embeded videos in blogs and places like Squidoo to increase views on my YouTube video, but your strategy is equally powerful for websites.

On Your Side, Stay in Touch, Glen

Hi James,

Whether it helps with indexing is besides the point, but placement of Youtube content inside your blogs posts will help with your Google ranking and will bring you more traffic.

I haven't put any Youtube videos on my sites yet as I wasn't sure if it was worth the effort. Does the placement of Youtube content inside blogs posts help with Google indexing the page?

Yes I would agree with what you have to say. The biggest factor is content. The more the search engines have to read the better.

You make a good point with this article. Youtube videos can really help. On first thinking about, you would not think it. My first hand experience is that rankings can be profoundly affected in a positive way.
